I’ve officially found my new favorite Sauvignon Blanc.
It’s no secret how much I loved Exit West from Lake County, and I’ve been blue since it's been gone. I've tried many others, but anything remotely exciting was well above a "daily drinker" price.
That changed with my first sip of Clay Shannon "Betsy" Sauvignon Blanc, another Sauv Blanc from Lake County.
While many Sauv Blancs lean into tropical fruit or sharp minerality, Lake County produces a more elegant style, perhaps more comparable to a French Bordeaux Blanc. This wine offers beautiful round notes of honeydew melon and nectarine, balanced by a crisp lime-like acidity, a creamy mouthfeel, and a subtle hint of vanilla.
Winemaker Clay Shannon's background is as a vineyard manager, and his estate-grown fruit reflects that mastery. Even better, the family strives towards regenerative farming practices, and is certified sustainable and organic.
Packaged in a classy bottle, Food & Wine Magazine awarded it 90 points and named it one of the best under $40. You won’t pay half that—we have it for an absolute steal at $16.99.
It's my new favorite Blanc. Hopefully it will be yours too.
